Color is something that many gardeners tend to ignore. Together with shape, form and perfume, it makes up the four factors contributed by the plants, the most important subjects in the garden. Even So the vast majorities of gardeners either omit it from their plans, or (worse) group together plants that clash and offend the eye. We would be unlikely to paper our walls with a pattern incorporating flowers of red, blue, green, violet, yellow and orange, all fighting to outshine each other, but that is just the effect that many people create in their gardens.

Keeping Termites Away By Using Mulshes

Mulshes are used by some people to make the property look attractive while landscaping. However, there are certain mulshes on the market that termites are not attracted to and will stay away from the wooden structure of your home. There are many advantages to using landscaping mulshes some of them are to conserve the soil and water, controlling the weeds and the temperature of the soil. These advantages including the fact that yard waste can be made use of have led to mulshes being utilized for water and weed management and for aesthetic value around your home. Right now, companies are wondering whether organic mulshes that are termite resistant could be developed as this would alleviate the problem of termites although it may not be a foolproof method.

Termites Resistant To Cypress And Redwood Mulshes

Mulsh is usually made of compost and wood and as termites thrive on wood, they use it as a source of food that they provide for the entire colony. A study has been conducted using different types of termites and their attraction for certain types of mulsh. In 1999, a study found that termites disliked redwood and cypress mulshes.

There is another type of wood mulsh that termites do not like and will not go near them the melaleuca wood mulsh. So along with the redwood and cypress mulches, termites are resistant to melaleuca.

While doing your landscaping with mulsh, in order to keep termites away, use the cypress and redwood mulshes. You could cover the soil with black plastic before you place the mulsh as termites stay in the soil and can enter the mulsh if there is no protective plastic. If the mulsh is being used around the house, you could use melaleuca as near the house as possible since termites dislike this mulsh. However, stone is the best although it is more expensive.

It is a fact that stone is very much more expensive to landscape your home, but considering the fact that termites like wood and will invade your home if there is damp wood around as they like wet, dark and clammy areas, the extra expense might be worth a try, as you will need to spend a great deal of money in getting rid of termites once they enter the wood structure of your home. Mulsh looks good while landscaping your yard, so if you are using mulsh make sure that it is termite resistant mulsh. Try and get a mulsh that will not attract termites and be sure to use plastic so that termites will remain in the soil and not get into the house.

The very word termite can cause terror in the hearts of homeowners. Most people recognize that a single termite can cause significant damage to a structure and if you keep multiplying them with each other, you will soon find yourself not only in an extremely unsafe house but also a house which is dangerous to inhabit and all but impossible to sell. Although a lot of people know about termites, not many of them know about the specifics of this resilient insect.
The termite, also called as white ant, belongs to a group of insects which live socially, a lot like ants. They mostly live off dead plant material such as, leaf litter, soil and wood. A colony can cause a lot of damage to structures such as homes, forests, crops and other buildings.
The termites outwardly resemble ants and are referred to as a white ant only because of its appearance and its social behavior and the similarity in their size. Significantly, the termite is whiter, fatter, and softer, has smaller legs and is in general a much slower creature. In reality, termites resemble cockroaches’ more than regular ants. Some experts even believe that the termites deserve to be given a separate classification instead of being grouped together with ants as a member of the Hymemoptra class or in a super order which has all of them referred to as the Dictyoptera class.
The common termites have a large mouthpart used for biting and their bodies are almost never more than a centimeter in length. They usually inhabit dark tunnels and nests as a colony and only venture out into the open when winged alates leave the colony to form a new colony, or when building a shelter or when harvesting food if they are grass-feeders and leaf-litter feders. The alates are basically baby termites emerging out of their colony in new search of new feeding grounds.
Just like ants, termites live in colonies with a lot of other termites and this is the reason they are often called as social insects. A typical termite colony could have members ranging from a few hundreds to millions. They cooperate with each other and use their collective swarm intelligence to search for food to sustain their colony. They also have a fixed hierarchy in their society just like ants. The colony is lead by a queen termite and there are soldiers, workers, reproductive termites and nymphs each with their own unique tasks.
Although termites are dreaded by a lot of people, they can be easily recognized and controlled once you recognize that you probably have a termite infestation. Take your time to learn about the termite and look for the correct signs that indicate a termite problem. Now, if you undertake the necessary steps to mitigate your problem, you will find it much easier to control and repair the damage these insects can do.

Termite control should be your topmost priority if you own a farm crop or a wood structure and wish to keep it that way. Termite control is one of the most important issues that all people have to face, whether they own a home or not, and taking advantage of this, termite control companies find it very lucrative getting rid of the termites and repairing the damage that they cause.

Usually, chemicals are used for termite control treatments. Today, there are a number of environment-friendly chemicals being manufactured by chemical manufacturing companies that help in the control of termites. Usually these chemicals are harmless to human beings and extremely effective with regards to solving the problem of termite infestation, whether in the present or in the future.

There are a number of ways of approaching termite control. If you prefer to go environment friendly, you could replace the chemicals with the eco friendly substitutes. This means that you will be required to get rid of all possible food sources that the termites can consume to feed on your home and take over the wood long before you notice what is taking place.

Termites need to lay eggs in moist, damp soil. This means that in case any crawl space is present in your house, you need to take steps to spray the space with anti termite chemicals in order to prevent the termite offspring from hatching. In this method, the bugs are being killed while alive and when the termite eggs hatch, the worker termites are no longer present to feed them and so they die of starvation. Although it sounds very cruel, it must be done considering the kind of damage that they do to the wood in your home once they grow up.

Ensure that all moisture leakages are sealed, especially those that make the wood in the structure weak. The common termites look at moist wood as a buffet table and so if you eliminate the source of moisture itself, it becomes far easier to control the termite infestation.

Another good step to take is seeking the expertise of a licensed professional pest control company. Absolutely nobody likes termites, therefore, ensuring that they stay out of your house is perhaps one of the best things you can do to protect your home. Prevention is better than cure and keeping the termites at bay even before they attack is the best possible move. The pest control company should be able to help you form a control plan that can help keep away termites and keep your home safe, sound and pest free.

If you are a home or property owner and you have discovered a termite problem that needs to be treated with chemicals, one of your first concerns will be termite fumigation. You will be using strong chemicals in areas where your family and you will live, eat and breathe, and hence care needs to be taken for your own safety. Termite fumigation concerns are natural and are no cause for worry.

Vikane is a common chemical that is usually used in termite treatment. It is a gas usually used in relation to tenting homes. This means your entire home will be sealed under a structure that looks like a tent, after which they pump in the Vikane gas inside and circulate it with fans. Once this is done, the tent is sealed and kept in the same condition for one day. The next day, the tent is taken off, and the house is aired. It is safe to go back inside by the third day. Usually people worry themselves about termite fumigation and think that the gas will stick to furniture and countertops, but the truth is none of this happens with Vikane gas and it has been proven that after the house has been aired, the little amount of gas that remains is completely safe for human breathing.

In case your home is being treated for termites with chemicals, you will have more concerns with your termite fumigation because you will be inside your house when the chemicals are being sprayed. A little concern is normal, but do not let it get to you. Most of the chemicals that are utilized for termite fumigation have been proven to be completely safe for humans. In addition to this, the chemicals will be injected into your walls and inside crawlspaces, so it is most likely that you will not be direct contact with the chemicals at all.

Other fumigation concerns are your thoughts regarding fumigation itself. A lot of people question whether or not termite fumigation is effective and if it is, how much. Another frequently asked question is whether this fumigation kills other pests including ants and spiders. The treatment has proven effect and is most likely not to fail in getting rid of the termites, the details of which you can seek in your termite control company. Fumigation is sure to ensure the termite problem is solved. If you ensure annual termite treatment, rest assured, your house will be pest free. Unfortunately, as the termite fumigation is meant for termites only, so it is not likely that this will affect the other pests.

It is totally natural for you to be concerned about your termite fumigation especially when it comes to the safety of your family and you. But do not let this worry you too much, as the ones suffering any damage from this are the termites.

The presence of termites in your house can have devastating effects but if you eradicate them by the responsible use of termite eradication chemicals and products, you would have taken a major step in the protection of your property and everyone inside it. This elimination of termites can be performed by a professional, licensed termite control company by the use of control procedures.
This process, eliminate termite control, squarely aims at the eradication of termite colonies that have currently taken residence at the structure. The sooner you reach an infestation, the greater your chances of completely eradicating the termites and you can also get on with your program of prevention of future infestations quickly. This procedure usually involves spraying of chemicals that would kill the termites around the base of the structure in addition to the walls of the structure where the termites love to live.
Some of the steps you can do yourself include inspecting the foundations of your home for cracks or any other openings and sealing them with proper fillers and sealants to prevent the entry of termites into your home.
Search for places where the foundation of your house meets the soil and also for places where water collects near the wood. Termites like to feed on wet, wood damp and naturally tend to drift towards places where the wood happens to be weak and tunneling is easy for them. Use chemicals to from a protective barrier and seal places where water tends to seep beneath the house.
Eliminate termite control eradicates the termites which are already infesting your house, but to keep your house safe from future infestations, you need to take annual preventive treatments from a pest control company. You can eliminate all the termites in your house by yourself, but to prevent them from re-infesting, you need professional help. In the long run, this may work out cheaper than repeated infestations of termites and the corresponding costs of the required repairs.
One can never truly and completely eliminate the requirement of termite control. As a responsible owner of a property or a structure and as a responsible citizen, you need to really think about pests like these that take residence in the wood in your home and devastate it making it unsafe to inhabit. So take the necessary steps to eliminate termites and make your building safe and sound for everyone concerned.

Many homeowners ask themselves what termite damage actually looks like. If you are a responsible homeowner, this is one question you should never fail to ask yourself. You should know the damage that is and can be caused by termite infestation in your building. Therefore, the best way to start is by asking yourself what termite damage looks like and educate yourself on the matter before termites actually infest your home or building.

So what does it look like when termites damage your home? Mud tubes are the most obvious signs of damage caused by termites in your home. These mud tubes serve as shelter for the termites and usually these can be found near the foundations of the building. The areas where wood contacts soil are the first places you should check while searching for signs of termite infestation. Wood, especially moist wood, is food for termites. Such wood is usually found near the foundations of the building.

Termites begin with a small hole that will get them inside the wood, and then they gradually eat through it. Then they make small tunnels and burrow through wood. These tunnels can become really long, if the damage has been present for a long time. What does this kind of damage look like? This looks like some small animal is making trails through your wood.

A few signs that betray termite damage are wood sounding hollow on being tapped with a screwdriver handle, softwood giving way easily to a tool and a gritty and thin material being found on the damaged material’s surface. Also discarded wings, bubbling or cracked paint of termite droppings are signs of infestation. Once you are certain what you are searching for, it is easy to find out if your house has been damaged due to termites or not.

You can always use the internet to find out what termite damage actually looks like. Use your favorite search engine and use the appropriate keywords to find out.

It is vital that you treat a termite infested or termite damaged area as soon as you discover it in your house. If you do not treat it immediately, it could become worse. Termites can cause irreparable damage to wooden structures in a house or building. It is not necessary that termite treatment should be given only after the discovery of the problem. Treating for termites before the problem is the best way to avoid it altogether.

Let us begin with the treatment for preventing termites. If you are a property owner, you will know what an investment it is for you and you will be willing to ensure that it is maintained well. There are many pest control companies that manufacture chemicals that are useful in preventing termite attacks on your wooden structures. These chemicals can be applied safely and are known to work well. In addition to chemical treatment, here are some things you could do yourself at home in order to prevent infestation and attack. Here are some tips.
” Repair all plumbing and structural leaks.”
“All landscaping and mulch must be pulled back about 6 inches away from the foundation.”
“Firewood must be stacked a distance from the structure.”
” Your downspouts should be long so as to direct the water away from the foundations.”
“All gutters must be kept clean.”
“While building decks and porches, ensure that wood does not directly contact the ground.”

If you discover a termite problem in your house, then you must start the treatment immediately. Termites are usually discovered when people conduct home inspections while seeing houses to buy. Termite inspection is rarely done when a new home is being constructed. The home inspector adopts a variety of techniques when he checks the structure for any termite problems. On finding any potential damage, a termite treatment program will be recommended that will help get rid of the pests from your structure.

Pesticide sprays are the most common termite treatment methods used. Here the spray is applied outside the house in areas that are potential inlets for the termites. Once the initial treatment is done, it is important that a regular termite treatment program be adopted so as to ensure that the structure remains free from termites always. If you have already had termites before, it is likely that they will strike again and hence it is important that you do all you can to protect your building.

Regular termite treatment will ensure that your building or structure is safe and sound. These days there are a number of termite treatment products available in the markets and so there is no reason you should procrastinate. Do not hesitate to call up the pest control company of your area and have them treat your house for termites immediately.

Termites have been labeled with several descriptions either due to their way of life, resemblance to Cockroach or ants, feeding activities, mound or nest construction, habitat, ecological/niche diversity, etc.

Therefore it is not surprising to have such termite descriptions as: damp wood-termites, dry wood-termites, subterranean-termites, arboreal or tree-dwelling termites, wood-feeders, soil or humus-feeders, grass-feeders, cathedral-like builders, dwellers in darkness, cryptic organism, white ant, etc. Their habitation has also been given such names as termitarium, mound, or nest.
